In
ancient time Tokha was called ‘Jaipur’. One day, a monk came into the village.
He got a lot of goods from the place. He became very proud and exclaimed that
in every house there would be Laxmi (The goddess of wealth and prosperity) resident.
From that time, the village was known as Laxmipur. A long year ago, this village
was named as Laxmipur. Later this named was also being extinct and the village
is called Tokha. In history, we can see that the village was famous as Tokha
and there is still evidence in inscription on stone. In Newari Language ‘Tu’ means sugarcane and ‘khya’
means field .The tokha village was famous as huge sugarcane cultivation area
.And people make a special dish made from sugarcane named as ‘Chaku’ which is
still famous in winter season. During that time many retailers came to this area to
buy the sugarcane and the special dish ‘Chaku’ .So instead of calling Jaipur,
the businessman of other area started to call Tukhya. Later Tukhya became
Tokha. After 2018/19 BS the village was divided into two VDC and the southern
part is called as Tokha Sarswati and the northern area is called as Tokha
Chandeswari.
